the general vague point of this topic is for the different teams to update us on various things they have achieved, and then for everyone else to tell us how great we are. if i actually bother to update the site properly, it'll mean that (fingers crossed) evidence of the achievements will be up shortly after you read about it here. the links might even be posted here to make things easier. but no promises. bear in mind that in the next year i will be both a busy and lazy man. i dont even know if i'll have internet access at all, which might mean expensive trips back home just to get things up to date.
anyway, was meeting AK today after he finished work. but this meeting took on an altogether more devious, and sinister role. i went in early looking for props for the banter 500. these included a spot the dog colouring in book, and a garden gnome. my attempts at trying to find a kite were terrible. the problem being that there doesnt appear to be any toy shops in belfast. at all. gone is the legendary Leisureworld. you would think there would be a gap in the market for such a place. i also tried to find a 5000 piece jigsaw puzzle. again the lack of a toy shop hindered my progress. even the always reliable WHSmith could only offer a 1000 piece one, but i did find my spot the dog colouring in book there. i didnt even get a strange reaction from the checkout lady as a 23 year old walks up to her holding said book and colouring in pencils.
after much looking, i found 2 5000 jigsaws. both with rubbish pictures, and costing £30. i decided not to buy them. to the point of thinking of lowering the challenge to 1000, and reducing the points. on a better note, whilst searching for a toy shop, i did come across a business with "Jonathan" in it. even spelt correctly as well.
after leaving AK's house, i went to get the bus home. which didnt arrive / had come early and just left. and i had to get it in order to arrive in time for the last bus home. i waited, then got a connecting bus that was 20 minutes later than originally planned. so i had to walk home. from belfast. i wasnt going to spend £15 to go to carrick - that is a crime. noone should pay to go to carrick. the walk is at least 12 miles. it took 3.5 hours to get home. i near collapsed when i arrived at 2am. i snuck into the house, hoping that my parents wont realise i stayed the night in carrick. which will save a lot of explaining, and i dont want to lie about how i managed to get home. the test will be whether my parents will set the alarm when they leave the house tomorrow. unless they check whether i am in bed or not.
anyway, as this would seem like a bad situation, it turned out to be good (by the way, i had no music to listen to on the way home, and i havent mastered walking and colouring in at the same time yet). i managed to find 5 pictures worth of banter 500 stuff - 3 pun based establishments, and 2 funny / odd grafitti. i dont want to reveal what they are, as it'll spoil the pictures, but one of the grafitti was banter 500 in origin it seemed. it read (and i am not making this up) "bye bye kelly = turd: and so the sham goes on". there were other pun based establishments that i found, but did not take pictures cos people in the shops would have seen me. i did not wish to either explain what i was doing to them, nor to have to run away. given that at the time, i still had another 9 miles or so to go. the places were "wok inn" (a double pun) and "budjet travel". i may one day go back and get them, but i'm not walking that far.
a good days banter indeed. i expect to wake up in a few hours with terrible cramp.
